DAWN Saturday, July 8, 2000, Consumer Credit Bureau launching in August

KARACHI July 7: DataCheck (Pvt) Ltd’s Managing Director, Mr. Tariq Jan said here on Friday that ‘contracts’ have been signed with two foreign banks, namely Citi Bank and ANZ Grindlays and the company is scheduled to go into service by mid August this year.

DataCheck is a Pakistani company which is being assisted by the Data Advantage Group of Australia in launching the consumer credit bureau.

According to a company’s release, the services initially will be available to the financial sector and later to the non-financial sector as well.

Mr. Bruce Bargon, Advisor to the Australian Company giving a talk earlier this week said consumer credit cannot succeed without a proper credit reporting system.

Citi Bank’s GM, Mr. Nadeem Hussain, presenting ‘vote of thanks’ hoped that with the coming of a credit bureau, lenders will be able to expand their market share by looking beyond the salaried class alone.
